AN INVITATION FROM KRAFT FOODS
Would any of you like to be a consultant to the Kraft Food Company? It's a lot of fun, it only takes a few minutes a week, and you will have a chance to speak your mind and earn rewards.
The folks at Kraft have partnered with Communispace, a consumer collaboration agency, to create Cultivar, a private, on-line forum of chefs, food writers, importers, nutritionists, mixologists, restaurateurs, educators, food manufacturers, and others who are passionate about eating, cooking, and health. It provides a chance to have a voice in decisions that will affect what millions of people will see in stores and on menus of the future.
To be considered for membership, you just need to fill out an application, which includes some writing samples, and submit it. They are looking for a cross section of those involved in the food industry to get feedback about trends, ideas for new products, and to test the waters to find what products are likely to succeed. I've been a member for several years and so far, the questions have always been interesting and there has never been one that left me feeling that I had nothing to contribute. We usually get one e-mail per week that contains two or three topics for discussion and brainstorming or a survey, a quiz, or a special challenge. We can answer whenever it is convenient and state our own opinions as well as respond to what others have written.
We are not paid, but they frequently give us an Amazon gift certificate to show their appreciation and sometimes offer special bonuses for certain activities (including one for new members). I find it a rewarding experience and would do it anyway.
I don't know if they have ever taken my advice, but it feels good knowing that my suggestions, complaints, and ideas have a chance to reach the top executives of one of the world's largest companies. It is also interesting to connect with the other members of the community and hear their opinions.
